Get Social

Our Six Platforms

BOMA Greater Dallas has chosen six social media platforms for our presence. These platforms were primarily chosen for three reasons:

  1. Their popularity amongst our Members and the general public.
  2. The types of content on the platform and how it is propagated.
  3. Ease of use and navigation.

We interact with these platforms often by posting, re-posting others, liking, following, and commenting. If you have a personal / professional presence or your Member firm has an account, please follow us or join our page. We will follow back.

Facebook

Owned by Meta Platforms, Facebook started at the beginning of the Social Media revolution in 2004. It is a great way to connect with family, friends, business colleagues, and associates. Still considered one of the big four social media platforms, Facebook is frequented by a slightly older and more experienced demographic.

LinkedIn

Launched in 2003, LinkedIn dominates the professional, business, and employment-focused social media space. Often referred to as "your digital resume (or curriculum vitae)", the platform originated as a career showcase and networking app. It has become so much more, though posts still focus on the business side of your life as opposed to family, pets, recipes, vacations, etc. that may be more common on other platforms. Still considered one of the big four social media platforms, LinkedIn is a must-have for any professional of any age.

Twitter

Twitter seems to be always on the news, in the news, making news, or the place for news. Love it or hate it, Twitter is where it happens, originates, or is posted first. Though founded in 2004 as Odeo, it didn't become the Twitter of today until 2006 with the first post, known as a 'tweet' on the platform. Twitter made news again in 2022, when it was purchased by the one of the richest men in the world, Elon Musk, and taken private (no longer a publicly traded company).

Flickr

Flickr is hailed as one of the best online photo management and sharing applications in the world. Since BOMA Greater Dallas is always happening, we have education, events, conferences, and fun galore. We capture many of those moments in photos and load them on Flickr for the world to see. Created in 2004, Flickr has changed ownership several times. It has been owned by SmugMug since 2018.

YouTube

Launched in 2005 as an online video sharing platform, YouTube was bought by Google in 2006 who has owned the platform ever since. Though BOMA Greater Dallas does not post as frequently on YouTube as on all of our other platforms, when we do post, we like to think it is a work of love and importance.

Instagram

Though built later than all of the other platforms featured here in 2010, Instagram quickly became a hit with the younger crowd. Though it is not age-specific or age-limited, we find that many of our Young Professionals (under age 40) prefer Instagram (called "Insta" in slang) over the other platforms. Instagram is a more photo-heavy platform with less words and debate. It was purchased by Facebook, now known as Meta Platforms, in 2012.
